Editorial Reviews

Dan Reed Network is one of the unsung heroes of the popular melodic rock scene from the end of the 80's. After successful tours with Bon Jovi and The Rolling Stones and seeing their first two records enter the Top 200 Billboard charts, the band went on hiatus. This is their reunion album after a break of 25 years and their unique brand of rock, melodies and funk is back for good!

I was excited when I heard DRN was putting out a new CD after all these years. I've been a huge fan of them since I first bought "Slam" back in 91 and even though I knew that Dan's recent stuff had been mellow, I had hopes he would kick it up again with the old band. It just doesn't happen. The first song, "Divided," is as lively as it gets and then the rest of this CD is mostly mid-tempo stuff. Sure, there are a few beautiful songs on here but I kept waiting for another "Love Don't Work That Way" or a "Tiger in a Dress" or a "Slam." It never comes. Dan Reed has always had a social conscious and a fire burning inside, but it's a different flame now. His voice is a bit weary and the songs fit it.

Bottom line: the new Network is mellow and no longer has the funk. I wish it were otherwise. I gave it three stars because of how much I love the band, but I was hoping for so much more.

After losing my cassette collection in a flood I started looking for some of what I lost on Amazon music and finally remembered to search for Dan Reed Network since Slam was among that collection. I was surprised at how much was there and this album blew me away when I heard it. I had only ever heard Slam and a couple of other songs which I liked but this went straight to the top as my favorite by the band. It is the complete package... great lyrics, music and vocals, it's one of those that I play straight through and will actually buy on CD when I have some extra money because I still like having hard copies of my favorites. I still like and appreciate Slam for it's raw talent and different style but this is that and more with a more mature and polished sound.
Thank you Amazon for making this available.

Great, as always from DRN! This was my favorite album for a long while, now it is second only to Let's Hear It for the King. Or maybe it's still the best one?

I've been a fan of the DRN since their early days and I'd count 'The Heat' as one of the top 3 albums that I own. To see they reform with a new record is without doubt one of the musical highlights for me of 2016. This is the original band with the exception of Rob Daiker coming in to replace Blake Sakamoto on keyboards and the record kicks off with the lead single, 'Divided', a song with a killer riff that will be a staple in their live set for years to come. I read a previous reviewer lament the funk element in this record that was prevalent during their early days, and whilst I don't necessarily disagree with that statement the album is still packed with songs such as 'Champion', 'Give It Love' and 'Eye of The Storm' that will no doubt be regarded as classic DRN in years to come.

Having seen the band live a couple of times in the run up to the release of this record, I can't wait to see them again next year in support of this and fusing the great new material on this album with the old classics. If you're a fan of DRN, then all your dreams have come true with this release. If you've never come across them before then 'Fight Another Day' is a good place to start to sample a band that quite simply should have been massive 25 years ago. Buy this and then sweep up their back catalogue to see what the fuss is all about.

3.0 out of 5 stars
