About Us

Founded in Napoli by Serafino Perugino, as a business specialized in Melodic Rock indie labels in February 1996, Frontiers soon developed as one of the cutting edge indie label companies in Melodic and Hard Rock Music. After a developing a partnership - which lasted the few initial years with the British production company Now & Then (who brought bands and artists like TEN, HAREM SCAREM, CROWN OF THORNS, JORN and several others into the label’s roster) - along with a careful and aggressive A&R policy, Frontiers has soon become synonymous with quality Classic and Melodic Hard Rock, Progressive and Metal music in the international markets.

Achieving this from the headquarters in Napoli, was not an easy task, but the well-oiled and highly ambitious team, managed in a few years to release new albums from some of Rock true giants. The list includes: DEF LEPPARD, TOTO, WHITESNAKE, YES, JOURNEY, ALAN PARSONS, MICHAEL BOLTON, SURVIVOR, SEBASTIAN BACH, STYX, ASIA, JEFF LYNNE and ELO, HEART, BLACKMORE’S NIGHT, GLENN HUGHES, Y&T, FOREIGNER, EXTREME, SAMMY HAGAR, WINGER, URIAH HEEP, DANGER DANGER, RICK SPRINGFIELD, HOUSE OF LORDS, REO SPEEDWAGON, STRYPER, MR BIG, TED NUGENT, NIGHT RANGER, PRIMAL FEAR, NELSON, WARRANT, GREAT WHITE, DENNIS DEYOUNG and many more!

Besides that, Frontiers also set up during this time many exciting new projects and bands to release of Rock's finest voices, or give some still established artists the chance to show a new side of their musical personality! Shining examples are REVOLUTION SAINTS (featuring Deen Castronovo ex-Journey, Doug Aldrich ex-Whitesnake and Jack Blades of Night Ranger), RATED X (feat. Joe Lynn Turner, Carmine Appice, Tony Franklin and Karl Cochran), W.E.T (with Jeff Scott Soto and members of Eclipse and Work of Art), THE DARK ELEMENT (featuring ex-Nightwish singer Anette Olzon and ex-Sonata Arctica guitarist Jani Liimatainen) not forgetting the evolution of KANSAS' Billy Greer and his SEVENTH KEY release, from a studio project to a real live band and the stunning PRIDE OF LIONS, featuring former SURVIVOR main songwriter Jim Peterik and vocal star Toby Hitchcock.

And of course a ton of exciting new talent launched during the years (from ECLIPSE to ONE DESIRE and INGLORIOUS, to CRAZY LIXX, LORDS OF BLACK, WORK OF ART and of course several others) which is now where the A&R focus of the label is.

Frontiers Records' foreword has always been to dream together with the thousands of people that love quality Rock music. Achieving this means constant hard work from a well-oiled and highly ambitious team at the Frontiers Records headquarters in Napoli, Italy.

Editorial Reviews

Praying Mantis are pleased to announce their 11th studio album, "GRAVITY"! After the positively warm reception to the band's last studio album, 'Legacy' (2015), the new album sees the band returning with an inspired, take-no-prisoners set! One of the most influential and famous artists in the rock field, Rodney Matthews (Magnum, Diamond Head, Allen/Lande) has been commissioned to do the artwork for the album in the same style and stunning quality that so many fans loved on the original Mantis albums like "Time Tells No Lies," "Predator In Disguise" and "Legacy."Praying Mantis are a well-established band of melodic hard rockers. They were formed by brothers Tino and Chris Troy in 1973 and together with bands like Iron Maiden, Def Leppard, Saxon, and others they spearheaded the NWOBHM (New Wave Of British Heavy Metal) movement. While they did not see the same dizzying heights of success as some of their contemporaries, Praying Mantis nonetheless became one of THE most influential bands of the NWOBHM. The band has remained active over the years and still record and plays live regularly.

Praying Mantis are back! If you are a fan of the band, or their last album, or AOR in general, then you are going to like this album a whole lot. It is more of a grower than the last album so it may take a couple of spins before you love it, but make no mistake this is an excellent album. It been said that it's not as heavy as the last album and it probably is not, but it does rock and it is very dynamic. Also, the base lines and rhythm section are very distinct and pounding. The title track gravity is my favorite right now and it is an incredible track. Ghost of the Past is the most progressive track on here, not Dream Theatre kind of progressive, but still progressive. The first half of the album does have a kind of 70's rock feel in places, while the back half of the album is more straight up AOR (Adult Oriented Rock). I think the Power ballad, Foreign Affair, is a beautiful, dreamy, AOR dream come true, with great refrains, keyboard work, and slicing lead guitar work. Praying Mantis have always been an great band making albums of varying quality over the years, but I can't help think that in some ways they are hitting their stride and making the music they really always wanted to now more than ever. Some of my favorite albums from them are Time Tells No Lies, Predator In Disguise, Forever In Time, Sanctuary, Legacy, and Gravity, but not necessarily in that order. Any ways, Quality stuff here and well worth your attention.

Thank You to the guys in Praying Mantis for continuing to fly the flag!

Wow, a great new release from a NWOBHM band! Admittedly for me this is the only Praying Mantis music I own even though I was deep into the 80's hard rock and metal scene as a kid. I think it was the fact that the vocals spot was always changing with this band. It's hard to get behind a band if they are always swapping people out (especially vocals). And in general during the 80's it was hard to get imported music to the states.

However, now due to the rather lame nature of the hard rock and metal scene these days I was looking for something new that rocks a little - and this release does rock. This is a great mix of melodic and hard rock. The vocals are excellent across all the songs (I hope they keep this guy and put another album out).

Key songs for me are: Keep It Alive, Time Can Heal, Ghosts Of The Past, The Last Summer, and Shadow Of Love. Check these out.

The only song I really dislike on this is the Mantis Anthem. If you are going to name a song after your band it better kick some major rear end, and unfortunately this song kicks nothing - it's a rather lame song (put your hands together, come on join the band).

Recommended for anyone who likes hard rock and melodic rock. Solid 4 stars.

I discovered this band in a little record store/head shop across from my post in Germany in 1981. The album caver looked cool and it was "Time Tells No Lies". I'm glad they're still at it too! This one rocks!

NWOBHM legends Praying Mantis are back with their tenth studio release, "Gravity", which also marks the much-anticipated sophomore spin for lead vocalist John Cuijpers. PM's previous album, 2015's "Legacy", saw the band return to top form thanks in large part to Cuijpers incredible voice and some of the group's best songwriting in over two decades. Throughout the eleven tracks on "Gravity", it seems obvious that PM is trying hard...perhaps a bit too hard to feature Cuijpers passionate pipes to their fullest, as his vocals are pushed a little too far to the front of the mix. In spite of this, Cuijpers continues to sound amazing, but unfortunately, PM's song quality just doesn't back him quite as well on this outing. Although there are some very nice songs during "Gravity"'s 57-minute run time, nothing really stands out as truly remarkable. There's also a strange lack of continuity to the songs. The opening tracks "Keep It Alive" and "Mantis Anthem" each sound like updated versions of something the band might have performed 30 years ago. Track three, however, feels like an out of place attempt at making a hit single ballad. Tracks four and five are the album's main highlights. "39 Years" is tight and powerful while the album's title track sparkles with the Troy brothers telltale twin guitar. Both are classic Mantis tunes! "Ghosts Of The Past" and "Destiny In Motion" are each fairly enjoyable, albeit somewhat lacking in PM's trademark complexities. After this, however, the album begins to take a bit of a nose dive. "The Last Summer" is a sloppy, sorrowful ballad and probably the album's weakest offering. "Foreign Affair" starts out nicely but then slips into a rather lengthy and grueling mid-paced number about infidelity. "Shadow Of Love" thankfully picks up the pace again but fails to deliver anything spectacular. Finally, album closer "Final Destination", which comes in at over five minutes, sounds as if it was completely written around Troy's 24 second guitar solo roughly halfway in. "Mantis Anthem" should definitely have been the closing track on this album. All in all, I continue to love Praying Mantis through all of their ups and downs and the most recent pair of albums are infinitely better than the two which preceded them (2009's "Sanctuary" & "The Journey Goes On", circa 2003), I just hope that Cuijpers continues to stick and that, whatever PM did when laying down "Legacy" can actually be repeated at some point.

Praying Mantis....yes they are still around. Pretty good album. It has a few good songs. Personally would like to hear a little harder sound like the old Praying Mantis like Time tells no lies but still some very well written and performed songs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tolles, abwechslungsreiches Album
Reviewed in Germany on May 13, 2018

Just recently started getting in to the music of Praying Mantis, and this album does not disappoint, a solid album with great guitars and vocals!
I have listened to most hard rock and metal and find this band original in their approach and style.
I am a fan of the likes of Flock of Seagulls their driving synth, guitar hooks to Asia and their synth, guitars and drum power pop/rock so this band fits right in for me!
    Give them a try

4.0 out of 5 stars Praying Mantis lebt noch!

Meine Anspieltipps: Keep It Alive, 39 years, Gravity. Up the Irons!

A very good album even if it doesn't quite hit the heights of their previous "Legacy" - a modern day classic in my opinion!
If you like melodic rock add this (and Legacy) to your collection.
Just wish the band made more live appearances!
