Editorial Reviews
Experimental pop act Let's Eat Grandma follow-up on the cult success of their debut album I, Gemini (2016) with the game-changing I'm All Ears. The British duo, comprised of teenage vocalists, multi-instrumentalists and songwriters Rosa Walton and Jenny Hollingworth, pole-vault expectations and preconceptions here delivering something fresh, fun and meaningful. I'm All Ears is alive with furious pop, unapologetic grandeur and intimate ballads. Featuring loops, Logic, outrageous 80s drum solos, as well as production from David Wrench (The xx, Frank Ocean, Caribou), Sophie (famed for her own material and work with Madonna, Charli XCX and Vince Staples) and Faris Badwan (The Horrors), I'm All Ears is the most startling, infectious, innovative and thrilling record you'll hear this year!

- Reviewed in the United States on January 15, 2019Radio here seems to be oldies or hip-hop so I look at who's coming to local venues and buy on that. It's often hit or miss but this was a Hit, big time. I. GEMINI will be here today and if I like it half as much I'll be double thrilled.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 17, 2018Compared to the first, this album shows the incredible growth of these talented and creative young women. I can't wait to hear what they do next. I just saw them in concert in Washington DC and it was a great show.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 11, 2018About two-thirds of the way into Let’s Eat Grandma’s sophomore album, there is a minute-long interlude called “The Cat’s Pyjamas” comprised of a whimsical carnival organ line and what sounds like something much larger than your average house cat licking its chops and purring ominously.
The record has no greater indication that this is not your average synth-pop release. In fact, the young English duo seems completely disinterested in convention, shirking predictable pop elements in favor of a mystifying centrifuge of industrial darkness, haunting vocals, and an otherwise unpredictable smattering of curiosities. Part Hayley Kiyoko, part Warpaint, part serpentwithfeet, part something entirely new and difficult to classify, I’m All Ears showcases the group’s fearless songwriting experimentation.
What Let’s Eat Grandma does exceptionally well is traverse into the unknown with something just familiar enough to help listeners feel comfortable exploring with them. “It’s Not Just Me” rides an irresistible synth melody worthy of Robyn and a memorable and chantable chorus to probably the most distinct track on the record. “I Will Be Waiting” is a beautiful and hypnotic song that ripples and shimmers like a twilight lake. “Ava” is sparse and jazzy, showcasing ethereal vocals atop a simple piano pulse. Tracks like these serve as touchstones for anyone who prefers their pop-music straight, with no strange flairs or offbeat nuances. But like parents sneaking vegetables into your mac and cheese, Let’s Eat Grandma knows it’s good for you to expand your horizons. So they draw out instrumental breaks just a little longer, make their percussion just a little more jagged, and infuse every song with a playful quirkiness that is missing from so many of pop’s most successful acts. The result is refreshing and joyful even when it’s dark, and though the band may not get the press it deserves, open-minded listeners are in for a treat.

Very tight, smart album. The programming doesn't overwhelm. They sound more assured and more self-confident on this record. I suspect they are mermaids come to shore. As they dried out they developed legs in place of flukes. If they need to eat a heart to remain land-bound, I won't resist.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 4, 2018I'm not sure who would open for whom - LEG open for Chvrches, or v.v. Either way, if you are a fan of one, you are a fan of the other. Perfectly complementary and necessary uplifting future synth pop for the now, for a turbulent world, for your peace of mind.

This is one for the present and future.
I'm in love.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't think of the girls as just lightweight popsters.
Although my headline is, "Don't think of the girls as just lightweight popsters," this album contains one those rare perfect teenage pop songs: "It's not just me." It's in the same league as the Undertones' Teenage Kicks, the Buzzcocks' Ever Fallen in Love..., and Bowling for Soup's the Girl all the Bad Guys Want.
Beyond that, though, the range of influences detectable on this album is wide: Hip-Hop, Mike Oldfield, Ludovico Einaudi, Porcupine Tree, Lightning Seeds. I'm sure there are more. Some of the album is quite proggy in its own way. There are tracks that make you want to get up and dance, and there are tracks that beg for headphones and closed eyes.
I'm fortunate to live near their home city of Norwich, where their recent gig sold out the Arts Centre (pics above). They encored with my favourite track from this album, Donny Darko.
A wonderful album. See them live if you get the chance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Glorious, simply glorious.
It is my fault that I missed the first album 'I, Gemini', hearing it after this one. To understand how good this album is, I have to also give praise to its' predecessor. I, Gemini was a crashing, glorious, mish mash of ideas, drawing from folk, electronica, prog and pop. Ideas were thrown in and wonderful music came out. and eclectic mix of all its' influences.
Then came this album.
I am desperately trying not to swear. All the influences, ingredients and orginality of the first album have fused to become a masterpiece.
A melding of all the potential, the talent, the lyrical twists and turns that this wonderful duo hinted at on the first album.
This feels like a more complete, more cohesive and more structured affair. Every song, every note, every word has its' place.
The production is flawless (check out SOPHIE, one of the producers music on the same label).
This is a contender for album of the year. Buy it, your ears will thank you.
