I don't really do music reviews any more but felt the need to reiterate what others are saying. I, like everyone else here I'm sure, know Anette from nightwish, who I am a huge fan of. I didn't know this collaboration existed until recently when amazon suggested it (thank you) while I was looking at the new vanden plas album.
I personally think that floor in general is a better singer for nightwish, but feel that anette brought a certain amount of...accessibility? That nightwish was lacking and was a huge part in the creation of what I view as their finest work, imaginaerum. Needless to say I was thrilled to see that she is still active and has collaborated with Jani in these albums.
Stylistically this is similar enough to nightwish to keep fans of them interested, yet different enough that you would never really make the connection if you somehow didn't know that was where the vocalist came from. Where a nightwish album tends to be a long complex emotional rollercoaster, the dark element is a neo symphonic blast to listen to. The songs are upbeat and incredibly catchy. Jani truly knows how to write music that caters to Anette's vocals. In addition there is a ton of interesting riffs and neat keyboard parts all throughout.
In conclusion, if you enjoyed Anette's vocals in nightwish and want just a truly fun and upbeat metal album to listen to, this is well worth your 10 bucks!! I now need to order the other one for sure!

- Reviewed in the United States on December 16, 2019As someone who is a major Nightwish fan and thought the 2 releases they did with Anette were quite good....I personally believe that Floor is better for that band for numerous reasons and Anette was probably aware of this also which led to her strong objections to Nightwish touring with Floor while Anette had to take time off while still a member of the band. All that being said, Anette has found her "home" being involved in this current project. The first Dark Element cd was great and this one is also. Vocals, songwriting....all of it just really good and I have no trouble highly recommending this release and the last one also.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 8, 2019I absolutely loved Anette Olzon in Nightwish, and female-fronted orchestral rock groups are currently my favorite. The Dark Element's first album was mind-blowing! Every song was absolutely perfect, with incredible energy, and the ballads were wonderful. I would have given it 1000 stars if I could! However, this new album.....
By itself, it's very good, but it's nothing new. Every single song on this CD sounds like it was simply cut from the first album. They could have just called it "Part 2", or made it part of a 2 disc set with the first. I do recommend it to everyone, but even huge fans of the first album like myself might be disappointed, and it feels a little weak.
There was one technical problem that I noticed. The mixing of the snare drums is really off on most songs. They're way too muddy, and don't have that "pop" like they should, unless I turn the bass WAY down on my players.
Also (and this isn't the band's fault), the shipping & case presentation was one of the worst experiences I've had. Instead of being in a protective envelope like pretty much every single CD is delivered in, it was flopping around in a big box, with no padding. The case has a big crack in it. As for the actual album itself, it had a huge silver sticker on the back of it, right on top of the song list. Not on the wrapping, but on the case itself!!! Maybe it's a theft-deterrent one, but it shouldn't be there. Fortunately, I have some extra empty cases that I can swap out for these problems, but I shouldn't have to do that. The people in charge of shipping this should be fired. However, this review is of the album, and not the shipping, so I'll just end it here.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 11, 2019The second album from The Dark Element proves once again what a perfect duo these two make. Anette sounds better than ever, her harmonies are on point, and you can really hear her putting everything she has into these songs. Jani Liimatainen continues to amaze with his talents as one of the world's greatest musicians. His guitar work is always top notch and with The Dark Element he has shown that his work as a composer and producer is just as impressive. This album is musical perfection from beginning to end. It's heavy, it's melodic, it's literally everything you want a metal masterpiece to be.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 8, 2019Anette has absolutely found someone who knows how to write songs to her strengths. On this, their second collaboration as "The Dark Element", Anetter and Jani continue to make absolutely fantastic music together. There is no sophomore jinx here, their second album together is as good if not better than their first outing. The singles released to date do not do the album justice, they are good, but the best is yet to be heard. Highly recommend picking this album up.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 15, 2022Music is subjective, so this is about quality and delivery. On time and without quality issues.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 24, 2021Another headbanger from The Dark Element. Anette is fantastic and Jani is on Fire.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 11, 2019I will echo what one of the reviewers already said. The music is pretty good on its own, but when compared to the previous album, it is a bit lacking. The previous album was uniformly strong throughout, but not so much with this one. Furthermore, this album doesn't really try to do anything new (except having more guitar solos from Jani, who is a solid guitarist in his own right, besides being the mastermind behind this duo) or explore new territory. It does seem like an extension of the previous recoding, with similar tones and production.
Nevertheless, it is still very enjoyable, with a number of stand out songs. Only giving it 4 stars because of the inevitable comparison with the previous album. My case had a crack as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't find any fault
Having discovered Nightwish late in life, at age 67 in 2023, I followed their journey from the earlier albums to the latest, Human / Nature and decided that while each lead singer had her own style, I had no favourite.
However since leaving Nightwish I can't quite get on board with much of what Tarja has recorded and Floor's only album bears no relation to her work with Nightwish - but I have found Anette's work to be out on it's own, this, Dark element's second outing is melodic heavy metal all there way through, complimenting Anette's distinct voice (as in Poet and Pendulum on Dark Passion Play)
This is definitely one of the best albums I've bought in the past few years.

5.0 out of 5 stars Muy recomendable...
